Government Could Ban Church Weddings December 26 Marriage News Watch

A new law in Ireland means that New Yorkers have more rights on Emerald Isle than they do in their own country. A hospital in Tennessee violates federal guidelines in denying visitation to a lesbian couple. There's a new ad for marriage equality in New Hampshire that epitomizes Yankee thrift. And 20,000 Australian doctors agree marriage equality is good for your head. I'm Matt Baume at the American Foundation for Equal Rights, and welcome to Marriage News Watch for December 26, 2011. Here's a holiday present for you yet another Senator has signed on for the repeal of the.

Defense of Marriage Act. The repeal now boasts 32 sponsors with New Jersey Democrat Bob Mendez, who voted for the antigay ban back in the 1990s. This means that fully onethird of the Senate is now sponsoring the repeal bill. That's a record level of support but let's be realistic we still have a long way to go possibly years before it has a chance of passing. And even when DOMA does go away, that won't automatically legalize marriage. All DOMA does is prevent the federal government and individual states from recognizing the marriages of LGBTs who live in states that.

Do recognize their marriages. Or in other words, if you get married in Massachusetts, DOMA prevents states like Utah and agencies like the IRS from acknowledging your marriage. But if you live in Utah and want to get married, DOMA's won't stop you it's the local laws of Utah that do that. It's a complicated patchwork of laws that, once again, highlights the need for national uniformity when it comes to full federal marriage equality. There's lots of reasons LGBTs want to get married starting with wanting to spend.

The rest of our lives with the people we love but this issue that keeps coming up is hospital visitation. This week Rolling Hills Hospital in Tennessee denied visitation to the partner of a woman in their care. They're not actually allowed to do that guidelines issued under President Obama stipulate that hospitals like this one allow patients to designate samesex partners for visitation. The hospital has since apologized, but it's still pretty incredible that without marriage, we still have to worry about this kind of thing anytime we go to the hospital for care.

The good news is that public opinion keeps turning in our favor. This week a survey in Utah showed that 64 of residents support legal recognition for LGBT couples. And across the country, a council member in Washington DC has introduced a bill that would reform the district's divorce laws in 2012 to provide greater parity to LGBT couples. The move is necessary because, once again, differing laws in other states have complicated the process of recognizing DC marriages and divorces. Advocates in New Hampshire have begun airing a new marriage equality television ad. It's.

Designed to pressure lawmakers into resisting an attempt by a small group of Republicans who want to eliminate both marriage and domestic partnerships. It's about as nofrills as an ad can get, so we'll see if this stoic approach resonates with natives. In international news, Ireland will begin recognizing marriages performed in New York. That means that married New Yorkers will have more rights when they travel abroad than they do in their own country. And Scotland is considering a compromise on marriage. The country may recognize civil marriage recognition while prohibiting marriage ceremonies in churches.

That proposal has drawn strong criticism from Quakers, Unitarians, and numerous other faith groups that support the freedom to marry. And in Australia, a Queensland MP is attempting to undo that state's new civil unions law. That's drawn strong opposition from psychologists, who explain that it would retraumatize an oppressed minority group. Meanwhile the Australian Psychological Society issued a strong statement in favor of marriage equality on the grounds that social exclusion is harmful to mental health. Those are the headlines, visit us at MarriageNewsWatch for more on all these stories and more. And.

Hearst Castle

Hi I'm Veronica Hill with California Travel Tips here at the magnificent Hearst Castle in San Simeon. Perched on a hilltop 1,600 feet above the crashing waves of the Pacific, Hearst's magnificent Castle is located halfway between LA and San Francisco near the town of Cambria. June 2008 marked 50 years since the castle opened to the public. Today, it draws more than 1 million visitors a year. Start your Hearst Castle Tour at the Visitors Center, located right off Highway 1. The Experience Tour is one of five offered at the castle, and is recommended for first time visitors.

Tickets sell out quickly, so advanced reservations are strongly recommended. Tours average about 2 hours. Hopping aboard the tour bus, we begin our steep and winding ascent to the castle, listing to old time music while passing roaming herds of cattle. It's easy to imagine how invited guests felt arriving at the ranch for a weeklong stay of lavish parties, good food and fine living. William Hearst built three separate guest houses for his famous visitors, who included Hollywood glitterati, political leaders and other notables like Howard Hughes. Passing through the main gate, we looked down in awe at the sparkling Pacific ocean, Santa.

Lucia mountains and rolling green hills that inspired Hearst to build here in 1919. The Neptune Pool, with its impressive GrecoRoman colonaddes, Vermont marble statues, remnants from Roman temples and 17th century bas reliefs, is a highlight on each tour. The white marble pool is 10 feet at its deepest point and 104 feet long, featuring a unique oilburning heating system. Hearst's visitors had their choice of the three guesthouses, and Casa del Sol is one of the most beautiful. This 8bedroom, 2,600 square foot Moorish retreat, with sweeping views of the Pacific, opens up to Central Plaza and Casa Grande, Hearst's 60,000 square.

Foot Medietrranean Revival style residence. Casa Grande has 38 bedrooms and 41 bathrooms. Total square footage of the estate exceeds 90,000 square feet. Casa Grande itself is a palatial sight. In fact, architectural historian Lord John Norwich called it a palace in every sense of the word. The Central Plaza outside Casa Grande is serene and beautiful, especially as the ocean breeze blows by. The plaza and outer terraces are a great spot to relax and admire the beautiful gardens, fountains, ponds and priceless sculptures. In fact, the castle has more than 22,000 museum quality artifacts, shipped from around the.

World, including ornately carved ancient European ceilings and exquisite tapestries. There are 14 sitting rooms in Casa Grande, but the Assembly Room was where Hearst's guests gathered around 630 p.m. to enjoy cocktails, play cards, or enjoy a game of Monopoly before dinner. The estate has 41 fireplaces! At 8 p.m., guests moved in to the Refectory, the only dining room in the castle. Here, Hearst enjoyed lavish meals with his mistress Marion Davies and about 15 famous visitors, always making sure there was plenty of ketchup, pickles and mustard to go around. Heart's.

Favorite dish was rare pressed duck The kitchen, built in 1927, featured electric appliances and the latest in modern conveniences for its time. It looks much like it did during its heyday, including spoons for enjoying bone marrow, a delicacy at the time. Hearst employed 15 chefs, waiters, butlers and maids. After enjoying a fine meal, guests retreated to the 50seat Movie Theater or took a dip in the Indoor Roman pool, styled after the Italian Baths of Caracalla and Mausoleum of Galla Placidia. Thanks for coming along on our tour of the magnificent Hearst Castle. Now, go make those.

Neter An Ally, Guide or Challenger in SoulCollage

At that time in the late 80's, I was a student in a program called the Human Capacities Program, with a teacher named Jean Houston. Our group met twice yearly for two weeks over three years, so a total of 12 weeks. We students, about 130 of us, traveled from around this country and from across the world to study with this powerful teacher, and also to learn from one another. In the session before our final session, Jean asked us to each prepare some sort of project to present during our last time together,.

And what I chose to do was this I made an index card for each person in the program a card with just their name on it and I placed this deck of 130 cards on my altar at home and most mornings in the next five months I drew from that stack one card, and I named the person whose name I drew my Neter for the day. Now Neter is a word you may remember if you read my book on SoulCollage. What it essentially means in this process is any guide, or ally, or even challenger who comes into a life.

And makes a difference. Actually, the word is found in ancient Egyptian lore, and there it seems to have meant any of the many Gods and Goddesses who were present in the lives of humans doing what Gods and Goddesses usually do Helping people, guiding people, challenging people. Sometimes interrupting people and giving them strange and difficult tasks or missions. Later after I had been using the word Neter for some time, I actually researched more about it. trying to discover how it was used back in that ancient, littleknown culture.

I discovered then that Neter was also a name given to that formless, mysterious Source out of which all these diverse, divine Neters came, and back into which they returned. I was amazed. Here in this fiveletter word, Neter N E T E R was encapsulated the paradoxical unity of the One and the Many, which for me is a basic concept of SoulCollage. Neter means both the One Source and also, at the same time, the Many beings that spring from Source and who intervene to fashion and guide and love our Souls.
